Cristiano Ronaldo, a global sports icon, is making waves in the world of social media. Already a dominant figure on Instagram, X, and Facebook, Ronaldo, often hailed as one of the greatest footballers in history, has now made a stunning entry onto YouTube, breaking several records along the way.
On Wednesday, Ronaldo launched his new YouTube channel, ‘UR. Cristiano,’ inviting his followers to subscribe.
And his fans responded in huge numbers.
Within the first 90 minutes of its launch, the channel reached an impressive 1 million subscribers, making it the fastest to achieve this milestone in YouTube history.
At the time of writing, Ronaldo’s channel boasts 11.2 million subscribers and continues to grow.
Interestingly, Ronaldo’s contemporary, Lionel Messi, also has a YouTube channel, which was launched back in 2006, and currently has 2.27 million subscribers.
Ronaldo shared that his channel will not only highlight moments from his football career but also provide insights into his “family, wellness, nutrition, preparation, recovery, education, and business.”
“I’ve always valued my strong connection with fans on social media, and my YouTube channel will give me an even bigger platform to share more about myself, my family, and my thoughts on various topics,” Ronaldo explained.
As Ronaldo approaches the final stages of his illustrious football career, which has seen him play for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, he currently represents the Saudi club Al-Nassr.
A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo remains one of the sport’s top players.
At 39, he already commands a massive following of over 900 million across Instagram (636 million), Facebook (170 million), and X (112.5 million).
Ronaldo first gained international fame while playing for Manchester United and made an emotional return to the club in 2021. However, his second stint ended on a sour note after clashing with manager Erik ten Hag.
Louis Saha, a former Manchester United teammate, believes there’s still a chance that Ronaldo could one day return to Old Trafford.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day, whether as a coach or even a manager. His second spell didn’t end as everyone had hoped, which was frustrating for him. He didn’t see the same formula or the same passion from the younger players that he was used to,” Saha told TVSporten.
